My name is John Keohane and I’m running for Select Board. Here are some
things I will accomplish:
MBTA COMMUNITIES ACT
Advocate for balanced zoning that promotes sustainability, reduces traffic, and increases affordable units in our multi-family housing to 15% or more.
TRAFFIC
Initiate traffic mitigation strategies. For instance, trying cut-through reduction measures, like speed bumps, creating one-way streets strategically, and even planting trees which data show can slow traffic. We need to provide and enforce loading dock areas in East Milton.
SUSTAINABILITY
Climate change is real. I want to implement climate sustainability considerations in everything that we do. For instance:
▪ Include LEED certification during capital project planning.
▪ Ensure that our inspectional services staff has the resources and training to
support residents in the ever-changing stretch energy code.
▪ Increase EV charging stations throughout town.
▪ Build community awareness on available eco-source electricity options.
I have lived in Milton with my wife since 2008 and I am so incredibly lucky to also have my daughter, son in law and two grandsons as residents of this amazing town. As a small business owner for 40 years, I understand how to listen to all sides of an issue and come to a compromise that best benefits all involved. I pride myself on being an empathetic leader and I promise that my singular focus will be to make decisions that are in the best interest of Milton.
I have worn many hats; from hiring talented people, to executing business development plans and, most importantly, being financially responsible for my employees and their families. The business lessons and financial sensibilities I have learned over four decades as a small business owner will help me lead our town into the future and ensure we leave Milton in better shape for our children and grandchildren.
I am grateful to have met so many wonderful people in Milton, but there are so many I do not yet know. I look forward to meeting you and listening to your concerns and ideas.
It is critical that elected officials be responsive to different views, perspectives, and neighborhoods. I believe in being a leader and to do that effectively I cannot just surround myself with like-minded people. Respectful discussion and disagreement are healthy.
As one of 10 children, I am comfortable with discussion, disagreement, compromise, and healing. We are long overdue for consensus building. We should treat everyone in town with respect and dignity.
Join me in making this a reality.
Sincerely,
John Keohane
